Bearish

Aggressive Bearish Investors - "Breakdown Stocks" to Sell Short. Ideally suited for bear markets or market pull backs. Potential for large returns  (See Performance)

The TTD report also contains stocks to short as  breakdown plays and as bargain (swing trade) shorts.

Investors should  tend to try to go with a strategy that fits with the stock market's trend, unless there is a special situation play.

TTD's Breakout Stocks - Long are most suitable for aggressive investors seeking ideal entry points into leading stocks, especially during bull markets. They can do extremely well in bull markets with gains of as much as several hundred percent.

These stocks can also do extremely well during strong market rallies, or if they are in a industry group that is performing very well. They tend to have strong earnings outlooks and are near new-52 week, or all-time highs.

TTD Quick Trade Stocks - Long These are leading issues that have pulled back in recent days, but could move higher soon. They are most suitable for Aggressive Investors willing to trade short term. These stocks will do extremely  well during market advances. They have about 74% win rate. During market rally sequences the win rate is even higher. The return is small 3% to 8% in just a few days.

TTD's Bargain Buy Trades - Long - Long Term.  These are for conservative bullish Investors These long-term buys are ideally suited for entry into stocks on pull backs within overall up trend. These stocks can give a good return long-term especially during a bull market.

TTD also presents Stocks To Sell or Sell Short. These issues are suitable for aggressive investors willing to take short positions both as trades or for longer-term plays. These stocks will do very well during bear markets or market pull backs.

TTD's Bearish breakdown stocks to sell short. These issues have potential to fall sharply. They often show a technical breakdown and also some fundamental business problem such as weak earnings.

TTD's multi-media updates include a slide-show that presents charts and analysis at midsession. Some times TTD presents feature analysis on stocks and the market. TTD uses Windows Media Files. (WMV).

TTD also presents a "Breakout Watch List" that is up dated daily. This list consists of key stocks in position to breakout. A close watch of this list can put you in the stock just as it breaks out. A good idea is to study the list and be ready to move into a stock quickly as it hits its breakpoint.

TTD often suggests using stop buy orders to enter. It is very important to buy a breakout stock as close as possible to the breakpoint. The idea is to get "elbow room" if the stock should follow through to the upside. This is very important in being successful in making big money with breakout stocks.

It is also essential to have a stop loss strategy for all stocks in which positions are taken. Not every stock will work as expected. It is important for investors to "police" their portfolios and avoid getting trapped in any bad positions.

Quality rating of breakout  Two key factors: 1 - Stock near all-time in price or near a 52-week high. 2 - earnings growth current year is strong. The ideal play is a stock with an Above Average Quality Rating. The stock is near a new high and will have strong earnings. TTD's other ratings are Average and Below Average.

Today's Featured TTD Breakout Stock

The Fresh Market Inc. (TFM) - 52.04, up 2.47 - Breakpoint 49.52

Hits All-time High, Net to Climb 22%, TTD Targets 62

TTD's Quality Rating of Stock - TFM  - ABOVE AVERAGE

TFM, based in Greensboro, N.C. operates 95 food markets. Annual revenues: $1.1 billion. TFM's stock breaks out today from a five-week flat base and hits a new all-time high. The stock has been a steady climber since it came public back in late 2010. So far today, TFM is trading a heavy 735,116 shares, triple its normal daily volume of 224,000 shares.

TTD highlighted TFM as a breakout at our midsesssion video show on the Web Thursday.

TFM's 10-minute chart shows the stock spiking higher in the morning, resting and then trending higher into midafternoon.

The stock then backed off a bit near the close.

TTD's clip of the tape shows the recent big block trades.

One can see the price for TFM's block trades climbing from $48.27 a few days ago to a peak of  $52.23. A key bullish trade came in the afternoon when a block of 5,000 shares (duplicated) crossed the tape at $52.22. That was up sharply from the prior block trade at $50.55. That showed aggressive institutional buying interest.

TFM runs 95 stores in 19 states, primarily in the Southeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic United States.

The company focuses on perishable product categories, which include meat, seafood, produce, deli, bakery, floral, sushi and prepared foods.

Its non-perishable product categories consist of traditional grocery and dairy products, as well as specialty foods, including bulk, coffee and candy, and beer and wine.

TFM's professional meat cutters are available during all hours of operation to answer customers’ questions, offer cooking tips and provide custom cuts of meat. Its offerings include steaks that are trimmed and aged for 14 to 21 days, fresh turkeys year-round and ground beef that is ground daily in-store from steak trimmings and whole roasts. It also offers fresh seafood.

TFM's 12-month performance chart shows the stock appreciating 38% versus 5% for the S&P 500 index. There was some light insider buying in March.

TFM's long-term chart shows the stock coming public in late 2010 and trading around 35. The stock then climbed to a peak of 48 in early 2011. It then pulled back to 31 in mid-2011. Since then it has been working steadily higher. The push to a new high could draw in more buying on Friday.

TFM's daily chart shows the stock breaking out from a base near 46 recently. The stock then paused and formed a new flat base -"on top of the prior base."

The breakout Thursday is impressive coming with expanding volume and a widening of the trading spread. Also, the base was set up above a rising 50-day moving average line. So, the breakout has a lot of positives.

The TTD momentum indicator (top of chart) is strongly bullish. and has been bullish for almost six months.

The accumulation -distribution line (bottom of chart) has broken out to the upside. So, that shows strong underlying buying.

This fiscal year ending January of 2013 analysts forecast a 22% gain in net to $1.30 a share from $1.07 a year before. The stock sells with a price-earnings ratio of 40. That is high given the earnings growth. So, one needs to be watchful of the stock.

Looking out to fiscal 2014, profits are projected to climb 23% to $1.61 a share from the anticipated $1.30 this fiscal year.

Net for the upcoming fiscal first quarter ending April 30 should jump 27% to 36 cents a share from 28 cents a year ago. The highest estimate on the Street is at 40 cents a share.

Strategy Opinion: TTD is targeting TFM for a move to 62 off this breakout. A protective stop can be placed near 49. TTD would treat TFM as a trading play off the breakout looking to take a profit near the target point.

TTD rates TFM an average intermediate-term play. We are concerned by the high p/e ratio.

Sponsorship: Excellent. The largest fund holder is 5-star rated Fidelity Growth Company Fund with a 4.9% stake. It has held its position steady. A key buyer recently was 4-star rated American Century Heritage Fund which purchased 455,900 shares. TFM has 48.1 million shares outstanding. Institutions hold 69% of the stock.

Insider Activity: Neutral. Light selling back in January at $43.30. No buying. Currently, 12 analysts follow the stock, 6 have a buy, up from 4 three months ago.

TTD’s Feature Bear Play

Avid Technology Inc. (AVID) - 8.64, down 1.64

Sees First quarter Loss, TTD Sees Drop to 6.40

AVID, based in Burlington, Mas., sells software and systems for handling digital media content. Annual revenues: $678 million. AVID's stock gaps lower today on heavy volume after the company forecast a loss for the first quarter. The indications are it may be greater than the Street expected. So far today, AVID is trading 1.4 million shares. seven times its normal daily volume of 190,000 shares.

TTD highlighted AVID as a short at our midsession video show on the Web Thursday.

AVID's stock gapped lower in the morning. It hit an intraday low of 8.51. The stock was unable to stage a significant rally.

TTD's clip of the tape shows the recent block trades. One can see the price for the blocks declining from $10.28 to $8.63. A key bearish trade came when a block of 12,134 shares (duplicated) crossed at $8.63. That was down from the prior block at $10.28.

Analysts have been expecting AVID to show a loss of 6 cents a share for the first quarter compared with a loss of 12 cents a year ago. The company will report final results on April 26. It said the company had a sharp drop in revenues from one of its key divisions.

For the year, the Street currently expects a profit of 28 cents a share compared with a loss of 12 cents a year ago. That forecast could come down.

AVID makes tools to develop digital media. Digital media are media elements, whether video or audio or graphics, in which the image, sound or picture is recorded and stored as digital values, as opposed to analog signals.

The company's systems are designed to improve the productivity of video and film editors by enabling them to edit moving pictures and sound in a faster, easier, and more cost-effective manner than traditional analog tape-based systems.

AVID's stock had staged a rally from 6 to 12. It then tried to form a base. However, today's gap drop on big volume is very bearish. The stock's accumulation - distribution line (bottom of chart) has turned down showing significant selling.

Strategy Opinion:  TTD is targeting AVID for a decline to 6.40 within the next few months, or sooner. A protective stop buy can be placed near 9.80.
