Quote or chart

TTD also presents a "Breakout Watch List" that is up dated daily. This list consists of key stocks in position to breakout. A close watch of this list can put you in the stock just as it breaks out.

TTD often suggests using stop buy orders to enter. It is very important to buy a breakout stock as close as possible to the break point. The idea is to get "elbow room" if the stock should follow through to the upside. This is very important in being successful in making big money with breakout stocks.

TTD also has  special feature sections on  Educational Tips on Investing.

Today's Featured Breakout Stock

Rostelecom (ROS)- 71.81, up 1.29 - Breakpoint 71

Russian Telecom Firm's Net to Jump 36% This Year, TTD Targets 84

ROS, based in Moscow, Russia is a major long-distance carrier in Russia. Annual revenues: $2.3 billion. ROS moves higher today to clear key resistance in its 11-week base. The stock is within range of making a new high. It just needs to hurdle 74.08. If that happens, it could well draw in more buying. So far today, ROS is trading 75,900 shares. Its average daily volume is 112,000 shares.

TTD's clip of the tape shows a big block of 2,500 shares crossing on a modest up tick to $72.18 from the prior trade at $72.15. The trade was one of the largest during the day for ROS.

TTD highlighted ROS as a breakout at our midsession show on the Web.

TTD's performance chart shows ROS up 40% the past 12 months versus an 8% drop in the S&P 500.

ROS had a monopoly on domestic and international long-distance telephone services in Russia until the market was deregulated Jan. 1, 2006, allowing competition.

The company still has over 50% market share. ROS also runs other businesses, including leased line services, intelligent network services, and customer equipment servicing.

The telecommunications carrier mainly provides services to some 90 regional phone companies and links their networks together.

ROS transmits voice and data using terrestrial and undersea fiber-optic cable, digital microwave relay, and satellites. Its other services include television broadcasting, videophone connections, and Internet access. State telecom holding company Svyazinvest owns 50.7% of ROS.

TTD's long-term chart shows ROS in a powerful bull market. The stock has soared from 18 in 2006 to 72. It remains in a powerful bull market.

TTD's daily chart shows the stock pushing out of a basing pattern. It has overcome the key resistance area in the base. It is now in position to make a new high.

Volume today is light. Also, the stock's TTD momentum indicator (bottom of chart) is in a down trend. That indicates there is subtle selling taking place. So, one has to be very watchful of the stock.

The TTD momentum indicator (top of the chart) is neutral.

This year, analysts predict ROS' earnings will jump 36% to $2.13 a share from $1.57 a year ago.

The stock sells with a price-earnings ratio of  33. That is reasonable given the earnings growth rate.

Strategy Opinion: ROS is an ideal spot to surprise on the upside. It has the strong earnings growth to support a push higher. The only problem we see is the weak AD line. So, one needs to be careful. TTD is calling for ROS to advance to 84 within the next few months. A protective stop can be placed near 67. TTD rates ROS a good intermediate-term play.

Sponsorship: Average: The largest fund holder is 3-star rated Vanguard Emerging Markets Stock Index Fund with a 0.53% stake. It was a recent buyer of 44,000 shares. Another holder, although small, is Fidelity Diversified International Fund, 4-star rated.

Insider Activity:  Not available. Analysts coverage not available.

All Timely Breakout Stocks From Tape Action Today

(The “breakout List” gives all stocks breaking out of a base of five weeks or more. These stocks have a good chance to trend higher. However, a stop should be used to avoid those that do not work.

(Trading strategy: One should buy breakout stocks at breakpoint by using market order or stop buy)

Charts of Breakout Stocks

TTD’s Feature Stock Under Accumulation

(Trading strategy: Purchase of these stocks is done when either the stock is still in a base, or has emerged and is acting very bullish. Purchase while a stock still is basing should be a scale-in strategy with the final buying to be done on a breakout from a base. Buying of these stocks when they are trending higher can be done aggressively.)

Owens-Illinois Inc. (OI) - 56.07

Set a Stop Buy at 59 to Catch the Breakout

Profits to Climb 354 This Year, Big 1st Qtr. Coming, TTD Sees 72

OI, based in Toledo, O., is one of the world's largest makers of glass bottles. Annual revenues: $7.7 billion. OI is a big cap play that is on a roll. The stock turned up from a bottom at 13 in mid-2006. It is now a well-formed, six-week, cup and handle base. With strong earnings coming for the first quarter, TTD sees the stock poised to breakout at any time. Thus, we suggest accumulation.

OI is off slightly in price today. It is trading 1.3 million shares so far today. The stock's average daily volume is 1.9 million shares.

TTD's clip of the tape shows a big block of 25,500 shares crossing late on Friday on a nice up tick to $56.90 from the prior trade at $56.80. The action showed very good accumulation. That trade was followed by another big block at 48,300 shares, which crossed at 56.90.

OI's operations in 23 countries. It has the largest market share in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. It  products  bottles for the   beverage and drug industries.

TTD's long-term chart shows OI now in position to make an all-time high. If it can do that, there are good chances it will draw in more buying and show good upside momentum.

TTD's daily chart of OI shows the stock sprinting from 38 to 56 this year - a very good move considering the stock market was weak during that time. So, OI is one of the best performing NYSE stocks this year.

The subsequent cup-and-handle base is very well formed showing a contraction of volume near the lows.

The pull back in price in the handle portion - the past four days - is very constructive. The stock's accumulation - distribution line is neutral.

OI is poised to show a big first quarter with earnings up 139%. The Street is forecasting net at 72 cents a share, up from 30 cents a year ago.

The highest estimate on the Street is at 94 cents a share. TTD sees chances for an upside surprise. The past  four quarters the company has topped the consensus estimate by 58 to 13 cents a share.

For the year, analysts predict products will jump 34% to $3.94 a share from $2.94 a year ago. The stock sells with a price-earnings ratio of just 14. TTD sees that as very low given the earnings growth rate. Next year, profits should climb 21% to $4.76 a share.

Sales are growth at 15%. The company is benefiting from increased prices and a better profit mix.

Strategy Opinion: OI is a great looking big cap play. The valuation is such to attract institutional buying. TTD suggests a partial position in OI with further buying to be done on a move over 59. TTD is targeting the stock for a move to 72 within the next few months. A protective stop can be placed near 53. TTD rates OI a very good intermediate-term play.

Sponsorship: Good. The top fund holder is 5-star rated Janus Contrarian Fund with a 7% stake. It has held its position steady. A key seller recently was Vanguard Windsor Fund, 3-star rated,  which disposed of 1.8 million shares. The largest buyer was 5-star rated American Century Heritage Fund, which added 533,000 shares.

Insider Activity: Slightly Bullish. Insiders were recent buyers around 52. Seven analysts follow the stock, 4 have a buy, down from 6 three months ago.

Commentary on TTD’s Feature Bear Play

Interactive Intelligence Inc. (ININ) - 11.45, off 0.88

Profits to Fall Sharply, TTD Sees Decline to 8.50

ININ, based in Indianapolis, Ind., develops enterprise software that enables customers to automate their business communications. Annual revenues: $110 million. ININ' stock breaks down today with expanding volume. The move undercuts key support and sets off a  TTD short play. The company is expected to report a sharp drop in earnings for the next two quarters. So far today, volume is running at 249,329 shares. The stock's average daily volume is 228,000 shares.

TTD's clip of the ape shows a large block of 11,300 shares crossing on a big down tick to $12.61 from the prior trade at $12.67. The action indicated clear institutional selling pressure.

The company's proprietary Enterprise Interaction Center and Interaction Recorder software provides a single intergrated service that is able to process thousands of telephone calls, e-mails, faxes, voice-mail messages, Internet chat sessions, and Web callback requests.

ININ's customers include Ameritech, BuyItNow, Deutsche Telekom Berkom, Seagate Technology, and Toshiba.

The company has said it was cautious about 2008 because of the economic climate. Analysts expect ININ's earnings this year to drop 62% to 35 cents a share from 91 cents a year ago. The first two quarters of this year will be weak. Net for the first quarter should decline 33% and the second quarter should be down 28%.

TTD's daily chart of ININ shows the stock with a big drop in December and January. It then rallied slightly. However, now ININ has rolled over and is moving lower. TTD is targeting the stock for a decline to 8.50 within a few  months. The stock's TTD momentum indicator (top of chart) is bearish.
