Timely Breakout Stocks From Tape Action

(The “breakout List” gives all stocks breaking out of a base of five weeks or more. These stocks have a good chance to trend higher. However, a stop should be used to avoid those that do not work.

  OXM, based in Atlanta, designs and sells clothes. Annual revenues: $749 million. OXM's stock surges higher Thursday and breaks out from its 6-week, flat base.

  The move carries the stock to a new all-time high. That is very bullish.

  TTD sees potential for more on the upside.

  OXM's breakout was triggered by a big earnings beat for its fiscal first quarter ended in March.

  The company came in with net of $1.80 a share. That topped the consensus estimate of $1.06 a share by a big margin.

  TTD highlighted OXM as a breakout at our midsession video show Thursday.

 OXM shot higher in the morning and cleared its breakpoint line easily.

The stock reached an intraday high of $114.47.

  It then backed off a bit and trended sideways the rest of the day.

  In after hours trading, OXM was up $2.90.

    Tape Action

  OXM's tape action shows the recent block trades.

  One can see the price for the blocks climbing from $98.10 in the prior session to as high as $114 in the morning.

  A key bullish trade came in the morning when a block of 10,902 shares (duplicated) crossed at $107.14.

  That was up sharply from the prior block the day before at $98.10.

  Business

 OXM designs and sells clothes.

 The company sells products bearing the trademarks of its owned Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer and Southern Tide lifestyle brands.

  It distributes its products through its direct to consumer channels, consisting of its Tommy Bahama and Lilly Pulitzer full-price retail stores and its e-commerce sites for Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer and Southern Tide.

  The company operates 128 Tommy Bahama and 40 Lilly Pulitzer full-price retail stores.

  Charts

  OXM's 12-month performance chart shows the stock up 90% versus a 19% gain for the stock market.

  Insiders were recent buyers at$47.60. They were sellers at $65 to $84 a share.

  OXM's long-term chart shows the stock climbing from $49 in 2017 to a peak at $97 by 2018.

  The stock then fell back to $30 by early 2020 due in part to the big market sell off.

  However, OXM turned and surged to $97 and then formed a flat base.

  OXM's daily chart shows the stock rising from $68 in February to a peak near $94 by May.

  The stock put down a flat base and now gaps higher with big volume.

  The stock's CCI momentum indicator is strongly bullish.

   Earnings Outlook

  Analysts predict net for the fiscal year ending in January 2022 will surge to $3.05 a share from the loss of $1.81 the prior year.

  Looking out to fiscal 2023 ending in January, the Street predicts a 22% rise in net to $3.73 a share from the anticipated $3.05 in the current fiscal year.

  Profits for the fiscal second quarter are projected to jump to $1.18 a share from the loss of 38 cents the prior year.

  The highest estimate from 4 analysts is at $1.49 a share.

  Then in the fiscal third quarter, the street predicts a loss of 4 cents a share compared with a loss of 44 cents the previous year.

Strategy Opinion:  TTD is targeting OXM for a move to $125 within the next few months, or sooner.

A protective stop can be placed near $96.

Intermediate-Term Rating: Average.

  LAKE, based in Decatur, Ala., makes and sells protective clothing. Annual revenues: $159 million. LAKE's stock falls sharply on big volume Thursday. The move undercuts near-term support.

  So far today, LAKE is trading a heavy 727,731 shares, six times its average daily volume of 119,000 shares.

  TTD sees potential for more on the downside.

  LAKE's stock fell in the morning and undercut key technical support.

  The stock touched an intraday low of $22.70 in the morning.

  It then lifted slightly and trended mostly sideways the rest of the day.

  In after-hours trading, the stock was up 14 cents a share.

   Tape Action

  LAKE's tape action shows the recent block trades.

  One can see the price for the blocks falling from $26.43 in the prior session to as low as $23.07 in the morning.

  A key bearish trade came in the morning when a block of 5,620 shares (duplicated) crossed at $24.61.

  That was down sharply from the prior block the day before at $26.43 on 3,614 shares.

    Business

 LAKE sells safety garments for industrial and public use.

The company's line covers limited use/disposable protective clothing; high-end chemical protective suits; firefighting, flame resistant personal protective equipment and heat protective apparel.

LAKE's products are sold by its in-house customer service group, its regional sales managers and independent sales reps to a network of over 1,600 North American safety supply distributors.

   Earnings:

  Net for the fiscal year ending in January should fall 54% to $1.98 a share from the $4.31 the prior year.

  Net for the fiscal second quarter ending in July should drop 52% to 56 cents a share from the $1.16 the previous year.

Charts:  

  LAKE's daily chart shows the stock peaking at $47.94 in February. The stock then worked lower. It tried to find support near $25, but now breaks down with a big pick up in volume.

Strategy Opinion: TTD  is targeting LAKE for a decline to $18.50 within the next few months, or sooner. A protective stop buy can be placed near $24.50.
